    • Cecil began his career as a public defender and later became a member of the House of Representatives. He is currently a Justice of the Peace in Mesa.
    • Our prisons are overcrowded.

Arizona could face fines over failures in prison health care

From the Associated Press:

PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona could face up to $650,000 in fines for failing to improve health care for prison inmates.

Lawyers for the state filed court papers Monday listing more than 650 instances during December in which it was unable to comply with terms of a lawsuit settled more than three years ago.

Opening Day of Arizona Legislature

Patricia, Terry, Jenny, Maya, Stephen and Shari represented AZRSOL on the lawn of the capital on the opening day of the 2018 session of the Arizona State Legislature.  Our  purpose was to make the public and the legislature aware of AZRSOL and to educate them on Facts not Fear.

Some of Our Current Projects

We are excited to be working with legislators to amend ARS 13-923 which allows youthful offenders an opportunity to be removed from the registry and other collateral consequences of their crime. The change would raise the age of eligibility from 22 to 25.

Fearless Meetings – Update and New Location

It has been a busy few months for AZRSOL.  Our Fearless meeting had a wonderful guest speaker, John Tennant from Maricopa County Adult Probation, who spoke about the unique opportunity people on sex offender probation (which is usually a lifetime term) in Maricopa County have to modify the terms of their probation.

A Challenge To The ARIZONA REGISTRY

We have begun to explore the possible options for a legal challenge to the Arizona sex offender registry. An Arizona attorney hosted a meeting which was attended by 25 people. At the meeting we discussed the organization, funding, and possible legal options for this challenge. The members present were very interested in continuing this effort.
