May 2019 Fearless Minutes

May Fearless Minutes

Guest Speaker

Our speaker this month was Amy Love, Deputy Director of Government Affairs from the Arizona State Supreme Court. Amy gave us quite an education on the legislative process and the power of telling your story. She encouraged all of us, even those who cannot vote, to be an active participant in State government. Amy was so well received that she ran out of time. We are working to schedule Amy for a future Fearless meeting.  Attached to the minutes are the handouts from Amy’s presentation.

Business Update

  • Amazon Smiles (smile.amazon.com) is a way you can donate to AZRSOL simply by shopping on Amazon. You need to use this link and register Arizonans for Rational Sex Offense Laws as your charity.
  • We still want to encourage all of you to write your story in a way that can be told in 2-minutes and shared online and in publications. As our guest speaker said, telling our stories is a powerful way to effect change. If you need help, contact Maya at maya_angelofsorts@yahoo.com.
  • South Unit Fearless is going strong and we continue to use a portion of their generous donation as a Reentry Award.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be on Thursday June 20  from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 3200 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85012.  Free parking is available in the lot at the Park Central strip mall at 3100 N. Central (about 1/2 block South of our meeting location).  The parking garage in the building charges $1.00 for every 20 minutes.  There is also a Light Rail stop across from the meeting’s office building.  Hopefully, our location will give those of you on probation an opportunity to attend.  Please check with your probation officer and let us know if your request is not approved. Our guest speaker will be Katie Krejci and Megan White attorneys from the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office.
